March looks like a busy month for Area 8 beginning with a visit to Barstow, CA old timers breakfast Monday March 1, to talk to those rails that come from Needles, CA about a unit in their area. 

Then on to Oakland, CA Tuesday, March 9, to visit with the Oakland  Old Rails Club at their luncheon to help motivate them to start a unit. 

And Tuesday, March 30, a trip to Bakersfield, CA to have lunch with a group of retired rails.  Bakersfield just lost their unit because of a lack of members, however, there is a large group of former Santa Fe fellows that were never involved with NARVRE before and are now indicating that they are interested.    It is entirely possible that we can restore a unit in Bakersfield once more as a joint Southern Pacific/Union Pacific/Santa Fe/Burlington Northern NARVRE unit.  We will do what ever it takes to join the forces.

It is important to mention that Area 8 is without an Area 8 Legislative Representative to work with all units in our four states.  We need such a person to step up and sign in.  If anyone has an interest in taking on this valuable position please give Bob Bloomer a call or email note.

Also Area 8 is very interested in two additional Assitant Area Directors to work with Ken Jolly and Bob Bloomer.  The need is having an Assistant Area Director in the L. A. Area and one in the Bay Area.  There are huge populations in those areas and several large railroad terminals and no NARVRE units yet.  Please give Bob Bloomer a call or email note if anyone is interested in helping out.
